Where to put vhost config?

I'm running Windows, and moving my server from XAMPP to Zend. I'm no Apache expert, but it looks like the standard place to put virtual server configurations is in httpd-vhosts.conf, in apache2/conf/extras. After wondering why my virtual sites aren't working, I poked around and found Zend seems to be doing things it's own way. Since I'd like to 'Go with the flow', and not break things on the next update, where am I SUPPOSED to put the vhosts config?
