Windows NTS Optimizer

Post by uggle » Thu Mar 26, 2009 12:19 pm

Hi,

Just wondering why there is no Windows Non Thread Safe standalone download version of Optimizer.

Microsoft recommends using PHP on Windows Server 2008 IIS7 in FastCGI, which works very well, however the download stand alone version of Optimizer on the zend site is thread safe. Zend Core has a Non Thread Safe version, so why is there not a Non Thread Safe version for standalone download?....

Microsoft Web Platform installer now installs PHP in non thread safe.

Thanks,

I guess you refer to 'Zend Optimizer v3.3' for Windows x86, right?

I will start looking into it, I will try to make sure that a non-thread-safe version of the latest Zend Optimizer will be available for download soon.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Best regards,
Massi.

You might want to Zend Server or Zend Server CE. Both are complete stacks for PHP for Windows too and has everything you would need. Plus if you are deploying a production applicaiton you would get support and hot fixes.

Any updates regarding this issue?

ionCube has separate downloads for thread-safe and non-thread-safe. Under IIS 7, the non-thread-safe version of PHP is much faster when using Fast CGI so having to use the thread-safe version instead just because Zend Optimizer is only compatible with this one is making me want to move over to another protection platform.

Right now we do not have a stand-alone version of the nts Zend Optimizer.

The suggested way to get one is by installing the Zend Server CE package.

But can I use the nts Zend Optimizer that comes with Server CE on a regular php installation or it will only work with Zend Server CE?

Hi,

Currently, Zend only supports running encoded scripts on NTS environments in Windows thourhg Zend Server, or Zend Server CE, using the built-in "Guard Loader" module.

Technically, you can probably extract the Guard Loader extension DLL from Zend Server and use it with any NTS PHP 5.2 build on Windows - but be aware that this has not been tested and will not be supported by Zend.

We will consider providing a standalone package of a NTS DLL of Zend Guard Loader if we see enough demand for it. It would help if you can tell us what application you intend to run (is it your own app or did you get it form a 3rd party and only want to run it) and why would you prefer not to use Zend Server to run it.

Thanks and best regards,

Shahar.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm using Zend Optimizer to run eSupport from kayako.com. I would prefer to use a plain PHP via IIS 7 setup using Fast CGI because I don't need all the additional features from Zend Server. Having a nts version would be great because PHP nts runs faster under fast cgi than the regular thread safe version.

You can always use Zend Server Community Edition (CE). It's free and has pretty much what you need.
