Upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6 is looking for a new licence?

Post by johnrowley1 » Sat Feb 08, 2014 11:06 am

I accepted the automatic updgrade on my 10.5 installation. Now 10.6 is looking for a new licence key. What's going on. I don't expect to have to pay extra when I accept an automatic update from my software.

I too have fallen foul of this upgrade... not cool Zend

A point release should not render a license invalid! Please credit your developers with licenses for 10.6 if you wish for us to upgrade.

This is strange. I had no issues with any licence.

I have the same problem too after updating from 10.5 to 10.6.
First thing i did after updating was looking in my zend.com account for a 10.6 license, but i found 2 different licences for 10.5 :(

Check for the date and try the newer one.

Already tried the newest one, but unfortunately that also didn't work for me.

10.5.1 required the new liceense, 10.6 does *not* require again a newer and you can get the 10.5.1 license from your zend account as all the years before for no cost if you are within the support window of your last zpgrade

If your support period is over, you have to renew it to make 10.6 work.
This is simply another business model where Zend says: Your 10.x license is valid for all updates that are released within
your paid support period (12/24/36 , depends...).

BUT: It is still not really fair to introduce bugs in 10.5.x and then clean them out in 10.6 and you have to pay for a new support
period to get these bugs fixed... 10.6 is a MINOR version, that shouldnt resolve bugs that were only introduced in 10.5 branch.
Therefore a 10.5.x release should also be done.

I too was offered the automatic upgrade to 10.6 then told that my license was expired. I was very disappointed and that was certainly not what I expected.

That is very poor form from Zend. I wrote their support but so far they have done nothing to help but offer me a quote to buy 10.6. If anyone from Zend is reading this could you at least offer instructions on how to safely undo the automatic updates?

Apologies to all customers who we made unhappy.
We already fixed this issue and since 10.6 release if the license will not work with a higher version of Studio there is no automatic updates notification available.
@fragile74 - we also keep adding all fixes to maintenance branches and we'll be releasing maintenance updates in parallel to working toward new versions. Maintenance update 10.6.1 is already on its way!
