Bug in Zend Studio 13.5.1?

Postby jør337 on Fri Dec 09, 2016 11:14 am

I got a strange problem. I have a project folders with sub-folders. But not all of the sub-folders are show in the the Project Explorer window. But it seems like Zend Studio knows about the folder, because I'm not able to create one of the missing folders (right click New > Folder).

In the Project Explorer I see:
Code: Select all
protected
  behaviors
  commands
  components
  config
  controller
  data
  helpers
  i18n
  library
  migrations
  models
  runtime
  tests
  upgrades
  validators
  widgets

The folder list under protected say:
Code: Select all
drwxr-xr-x  3 xx xx 4096 Dec  7 08:16 behaviors
drwxr-xr-x  2 xx xx 4096 Dec  6 10:52 commands
drwxr-xr-x  3 xx xx  4096 Dec  7 08:16 components
drwxr-xr-x  2 xx xx 4096 Dec  7 08:16 config
drwxr-xr-x  4 xx xx 4096 Dec  7 08:16 controllers
drwxr-xr-x  3 xx xx 4096 Dec  7 08:16 data
drwxr-xr-x  5 xx xx 4096 May 20  2016 extensions
drwxr-xr-x  2 xx xx 4096 May 20  2016 helpers
drwxr-xr-x  2 xx xx 4096 May 20  2016 i18n
drwxr-xr-x  3 xx xx 4096 May 20  2016 library
drwxr-xr-x 11 xx xx 4096 Dec  7 08:16 messages
drwxr-xr-x  2 xx xx 4096 Oct 13 14:13 migrations
drwxr-xr-x 17 xx xx 4096 Dec  7 08:16 models
drwxr-xr-x 11 xx xx 4096 May 20  2016 modules
drwxrwxrwx  2 xx xx 4096 Dec  9 08:00 runtime
drwxr-xr-x  3 xx xx 4096 May 20  2016 tests
drwxr-xr-x  2 xx xx 4096 Dec  7 08:16 upgrades
drwxr-xr-x  2 xx xx 4096 May 20  2016 validators
drwxr-xr-x 10 xx xx 4096 May 20  2016 vendors
drwxr-xr-x 39 xx xx 4096 Oct 24 12:47 views
drwxr-xr-x  6 xx xx 4096 Oct 24 12:47 widgets

As you can see, the folders "extenstions", "modules", "vendors" and "views" are not visible in the Project Explorer.

I also tried to do a right click on the protected folder and selected "Show in > Terminal" and got this:

I have found the explanation. The missing folders do only have subfolders - no php files directly under the folder. By adding an empty test.php file, the folders appear!

So this IS a bug in Zend Studio.

No, no bug.

Keep in mind there's a Project Explorer and PHP Explorer. The latter is a bit more useful when dealing with PHP projects.
Both have a few different options regarding how they display stuff. One of them are filters that hide some miscellaneous stuff like, you guessed it, empty folders. Look for the upside-down triangle in the topright of the Project/PHP explorer view.

A folder containing sub-folders is not, IMHO, an empty folder. So for me, this IS a bug!

Well, ok. That depends on how you interpret this feature. The primary reason this option is there is to declutter your project tree by removing anything that doesn't have files in them. Because, well, you won't find anything there to work with anyway so there's no point in showing them to you all the time. In normal day-to-day work you aren't messing with folder structures in your projects I assume.
Note that when saving a new and previously unsaved file these folders actually do show up in the Save as... dialog.

But, the good news is you can enable/disable this behavior.
Look for the upside-down triangle in the Project Explorer (top right), then select Customize View. You can select/deselect all the stuff you want to view/hide.
In the PHP Explorer the settings is simply called 'Filters'.

With some clicks I managed the empty folders (with and without an empty subfolder in them) to appear in both Explorer views.

When working with a PHP project, the PHP Explorer is a tad more useful (you can expand files and show classes and methods and directly jump to them, for example).

Thank you for your valid information. I don't know more about programming, but now I have good interest in it. So I believe that I can develop a new program related to this. dissertation writing services
