Again: 64-bit Zend Debugger binary for Mac OS X

Postby dulepov on Thu Sep 10, 2009 7:22 am

I would like to raise this issue again. Snow Leopard is out and it is a fully 64-bit system. Zend Debugger is 32-bit only, which makes majors troubles for PHP development on Mac OS X. Competing products (like XDebug) are 64-bit for years. Is it possible to expect a proper 64-bit Zend debugger for Mac OS X any soon?

Please, do not say that it does not work because it does! I still have an experimental 64-bit version from Yahoo Neon group. It works for 5.2 for more than a year and I use it daily! So it is a simple matter of compiling with proper switches.

Please, remove ppc architecture from the Mac OS X debugger (no need for this dinosaur!) and add a proper x86_64 support. If you need testers for this feature, here I am.

Zend, please!!!

Care to share this with us? I would like to try it. I tried googleing the group but it seems defunct or impossible to join a link would be great. BUT Hey Zend THIS DOES NOT GET YOU OFF THE HOOK! Sort out this problem before we all leave and use other tools.

I can't share it without Zend permission.

You're a better man than I, and I respect your integrity. Though as people consider purchasing or adding licenses to Zend Studio, this issue will certainly be a variable. It'd be nice to know a timeline.

Well I would think that if they have read this thread they will run or the hills. I see Zend badges in this Forum but for the most part they all sing the same tune ' get Zend Server ... blah blah'. Timeline we should be so lucky

I can understand that Zend wants others to get their product. But it is not really a good solution to answer "get Zend server" if people ask "give us a proper debugger". Satisfied customers are not made this way...

What I really like in Zend is their development team. They are really good guys. I had a chance to communicate with them when I participated in Zend Neon group. May be they are not reading this list and do not know that we still need 64-bit debugger for Mac OS X. I am sure they would put some time into making a proper build if they knew we need it.

Here is another message from the "Zend badge" :) No Zend Server stuff this time.

Just to let you know. This has been escalated. The product management team works on this issue. We'll let you know when there is something new on this.
And yes, the developers monitor and even answer in this forum :) But it's not their decision, how to spend the time at work.

Glad to see this is coming along. I have an open ticket on my copy of Zend Studio 7 waiting for this so it can be closed.

I would use Zend Server CE, but I prefer to use official Apache, PHP and MySQL I can get from MacPorts and build it myself, as then I can be sure I am using basically the same environment as our production 64-bit Linux servers. We don't (yet) use Zend Server on those machines. Right now I am at least getting work done with Snow Leopard using my old 32-bit build of MacPorts before I upgraded. I cannot build anything new until I get the 64-bit debugger, so I can rebuild everything 64-bit clean.

So, please do get this done soon!
