Hello Everybody,

As far as I concern Meta tag is a HTML tag that provides information about a web page. The information that you provide in the meta tag is used by search engines to index a page.

Meta tags are much more important in SEO, with meta tags we can allow/Disallow search engine spiders to crawl page, From Meta Title, Keyword and Description search engine come to know about page is promote for which thing, also we can provide authentication from meta tags.

following are the some methods for setting and adding meta tags:

-- > appendName($keyValue, $content, $conditionalName)
-- > offsetSetName($index, $keyValue, $content, $conditionalName)
-- > prependName($keyValue, $content, $conditionalName)
-- > setName($keyValue, $content, $modifiers)
-- > appendHttpEquiv($keyValue, $content, $conditionalHttpEquiv)
-- > offsetSetHttpEquiv($index, $keyValue, $content, $conditionalHttpEquiv)
-- > prependHttpEquiv($keyValue, $content, $conditionalHttpEquiv)
-- > setHttpEquiv($keyValue, $content, $modifiers)
-- > setCharset($charset)

Some example to set meta tags are as below:

$this->headMeta()->appendName('keywords', 'framework, PHP, productivity');
$this->headMeta()->appendHttpEquiv('Content-Type', 'text/html; charset=UTF-8')
$this->headMeta()->appendHttpEquiv('Content-Language', 'en-US');

Example to display meta in header part between <head></head> tags of html:

<?php echo $this->headMeta() ?>

Meta tags do help SEO. It may not be as much as it used to but they still help. Test it. Add meta tags, check traffic and pagerank. Remove meta tags, re check stats. Easy and simple. Check out some of these sites and see how meta tags should look:

Yes their is, it's called All In One SEO Pack, do a search for it in plugins and it should be the 1st or 2nd result

All In one seo pack was a great plugin for many years. I have used it myself on all my wordpress blogs but now I use Seo by Yoast. It is much better and more flexible.
