2nd Server on IBM I

2nd Server on IBM I

Postby thorstenlehmeier on Fri May 20, 2011 1:23 pm

Hello,

due to testing and development reasons we want to install an second instance on our IBM i. In the documentation I don't find a way to install to an other directory.
Is it possible to install a 2nd Zendserver?

Thank you for your help,

Best Regards,
Thorsten

Hi,

You can configure a second HTTP instance.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. I would also like to install to different locations:
/usr/local/zendsvr is the standard path, but I want to install to /usr/local/devsvr.

How can I do this.

Best Regards,

Thorsten

You don't need to install the ZendServer binaries twice. You just configure a second HTTP instance. BUT it's not supported by Zend. There are some configurations out there which seem to work, but I haven't seen them yet. Maybe someone wants to share them...

Thanks,

What If I would test a new version of the server on the same machine? I think there is no possibility isn't it?

You'd need a second LPAR.

I feel LPAR will just work like a new instance of virtual machine. It is too expensive. Have anybody tried to create a second Zendsrv subsystem and configure it not to conflict with original zendsrv ? I feel this could be the way. IBM or Zend can make it if they will.

Two instances of Zend Server running on the same LPAR does not work (it has known issues) and is not supported by Zend. If you need partial isolation you hace use VHosts for different application in a single http server. TO fully isolate one application from another you need to use a different LPAR.

Hi,

Thanks for reply. Would you please give me a link where the known issues is described?

I think the separated name based virtual host still shares same one instance of zend server. So, that partial isolation is too small partial isolation.
