YOu are right there has been quite a bit of "hype" about ARM based server hardware. For Zend, the decision to support a new hardware architecture (or OS or Web Server) is based on the market. Right now there is not a lot of ARM based server technology out there but I suspect we'll start to see more and more. But I'd categorize it as "experimental" at this point. Once the hardware is readily available, we'd need the OS vendors to support it (RedHat, Canonical, etc.) and to port basic PHP and the extensions (and DB drivers and ...). THen We'd look at Zend's additional capabilities.
SO ... philosophically there is no objection. It just seems a bit early.
