Z-Ray not starting

Post by marc5750 » Mon Jul 28, 2014 7:02 pm

I'm using a developer editon of Zend Server 7.
OS: OS X 10.9.4

When I open a local page the Z-Ray-Bar is shown at the bottom of the page, but it's only showin "Loading Z-Ray..." and nothing more happens. No reaction to any clicks inside the bar.
I've tested this with up-to-date versions of Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Everytime the same result. Also it makes no difference which local project I'm accessing. Is there a log file where I can find more details why Z-Ray isn't starting up properly?

Hey marc,

Thanks for trying out Z-Ray and reporting this issue.
There are two relevant error logs: zray.log and zend_server_ui.log. Both are accessible through the Zend Server UI (Overview|Logs).
You may also want to check the browser's javascript console to see if there are any errors there.

Hi,

thanks for your advice.

But unfortunately the zend_server_ui.log ist showing no problems with Z-Ray and zray.log doesn't exists. Neither found in the Log-Gui, nor with a "find /usr/local/zend -name zray.log".
Also a reinstall of ZS7 didn't solve the problem. Disabling and reenabling of Z-Ray also doesnt' help.

Is there anything else I can do gather more information why Z-Ray isn't working?

Thanks

Marc

Javascript console in the browser has anything to say?

Oh, sorry, forgotten:
neither Console in Firefox nor in Chrome has any entries or errors.

Hey jin

Thanks for the detailed post.

The devbar.db sqlite database in /usr/local/zend/var/db should be owned by zend:www-data and have permissions of 664.

The directory itself should have permissions of 775 so that the zend group may write into the devbar.db database and be owned by zend:www-data

Hi,

thanks for pointing in the right direction.

The problem for me was the unsufficent rights of the apache process to write to devbar.db. After chmod 666 on /usr/local/zend/var/db ZRay-Bar loaded completly. So I looked up for user/group of apache process.
On Mac OS there is no group "www-data". My Apache was configured to run with group "staff" and therefore it couldn't write to devbar.db. After changing group to "daemon" and restarting apache I could chmod back to 664 for /usr/local/zend/var/db and ZRay is still running.

Thanks

Marc

I also had this problem, on both my Mac with the developer edition and on a production server with the enterprise edition. In fact, on my Mac, I had to run the scripts to create the database file in the first place. Seems like the installation scripts need some QA....

After fixing permissions on production, I've now run into another problem. Basically, when I tried to access Z-Ray on https: pages (using a token, but I don't think that matters), it causes an immediate segfault. From the Apache error log:
[Wed Aug 20 14:31:36 2014] [notice] child pid 120076 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)
These entries go into the statistics_ext.log file:

Hi robe5323,

Are you still having this problem? I'd like to see it resolved.
