HowTo fix ZendServer's broken pear installer

Postby seopaul on Mon Aug 10, 2009 3:04 pm

hiya,

we have had nightmares in our office getting the zend server pear install to play "nice", after alot of wasted hours we found that the registry file for pear.php.net is broken in the zend server install (we install via DEB packages)

the fix is quite trivial so here i am

Code: Select all
# remove the reg file for pear.php.net as its wrong
rm /usr/local/zend/share/pear/.channels/pear.php.net.reg
# now lets get the correct settings
/usr/local/zend/bin/pear channel-update pear.php.net

# now you can install pear packages!!!
/usr/local/zend/bin/pear install --alldeps phpunit/PHPUnit

Hello,

Thanks for posting this. Just wanted to state this is not specific to ZS but was a bug in PEAR, see here:

hiya,

dint realise this was a known issue tbh, looking at the date of the forum post tho this has been a known issue for almost 2 months now, so for this to be still broken in the zend copy is inexcusable considering Zend's affiliation with php itself and this statement on the Server CE page since running a pear install is very basic test

Zend Server Community Edition is a pre-integrated PHP application stack that’s been tested by Zend to ensure the highest levels of reliability.

Hello,

I certainly agree with you that this issue and its simple workaround should be documented and our next documentation version will include it.

PHP 5.2.11 should be released shortly and the problem is fixed there.

Once more, thanks for posting for the benefit of our users.

The PEAR package is still broken in ZS5 Beta. Which comes as a surprise to me, I thought the broken PEAR package wasn't shipped with PHP5.3 - which is what I installed through Zend Server5 .DEB packages on a fresh VM...

The proposed fix still does the trick though :)

Thanks,
Steven

Hello Steven,

The PEAR issue applies to both PHP 5.3.0 and 5.2.10. It was fixed in
5.2.11 and 5.3.1, since we haven't released 5.3.1, ZS beta includes the problem.
Just to make it clear, this is not a ZendServer specific issue but a PHP one.
It will be fixed as soon as we release ZS with 5.3.1 which we hope to do soon.
Meanwhile, you can easily fix it with instructions provided in this thread by seopaul.

Thanks for your interest,

For Novices where does one locate the # remove the reg file for pear.php.net . I tried the windows registry editor to no avail.
