Fast CGI / 500 Error

Post by alexpetrescu » Sat Mar 28, 2009 9:31 am

I tried installed Zend Server using the YUM instructions for CentOS 5. Everything installed okay but when it finished and tried to start I get the following error:
spawn-fcgi.c.229: child exited with: 254

===== start output
Starting ZendServer 4.0.0 ..

Starting httpd: [ OK ]
Starting ZendServer Monitor node [OK]
[28.03.2009 01:22:39 SYSTEM] watchdog for monitor is running.
[28.03.2009 01:22:39 SYSTEM] monitor is running.
spawn-fcgi.c.229: child exited with: 254
Starting ZendServer GUI [Lighttpd] [OK]
[28.03.2009 01:22:40 SYSTEM] watchdog for lighttpd is running.
[28.03.2009 01:22:40 SYSTEM] lighttpd is running.

When I try to go to the application server url:

I get a 500 Error.

In the lighttpd.error.log:
2009-03-28 00:53:50: (mod_fastcgi.c.1768) connect failed: Connection refused on unix:/usr/local/zend/gui/lighttpd/tmp/php-fastcgi.socket
2009-03-28 00:53:50: (mod_fastcgi.c.2956) backend died; we'll disable it for 5 seconds and send the request to another backend instead: reconnects: 0 load: 1
2009-03-28 00:53:56: (mod_fastcgi.c.2769) fcgi-server re-enabled: unix:/usr/local/zend/gui/lighttpd/tmp/php-fastcgi.socket

In /var/log/httpd/error.log
Sat Mar 28 01:22:39 2009: [ Zend Optimizer+ (32399) Fatal Error] Unable to allocate shared memory segment of 67108864 bytes: mmap: No space left on device (28)

Hahaha, while typing this post I had a hunch that maybe my server didn't have enough RAM (it's a virtual server) so Zend optimizer was failing to load.

I went to /usr/local/zend/etc/conf.d/optimizerplus.ini and changed the memory from 64 to 32... and it WORKS!!!

I only spent 4 damn hours on it. I'm still submitting this because someone else might run into the same issue.
