There is no published list of known issue but they revolve about conflicts between multiple copies of some of the Zend Services that use shared memory blocks.

If vhosts is not sufficient then you will need separate LPARS.

Thank you for reply! It prevents me from copying subsystem . It saves me lots of time.

Wish Zend will solve this shared memory issue eventually.

This is one more disappointing news we heard from Zend or IBM. We can configure multiple running binary instances of apache httpd and tomcat in one OS. But, Zend Server told us that it can not be configured in such way.

I am praying that my employer's business can generate more money to support this if they still want to use Zend server on IBM i.

Hi Zend,

I found below instruction from Zend, it says we can install multiple instances of Zend Server on on Linux machine.

http://files.zend.com/help/Zend-Server- ... ations.htm

So, I have to ask why Zend Server on Linux does not have the "sahred memory" issue? Or, this article i found is wrong? I do not think there will be big change when Zend fastCGI process manager is ported from UNIX to AIX. I am confused. Can I ask Zend in more detailed question?

1) Is it possible to install multiple BINARY instances of Apache httpd on iSeries? Then, I can have similar environment in PASE as in linux?

2) after I have multiple BINARY instance of apache httpd, can I install multiple BINARY instances of Zend server on httpd respectively?

3) Which part of Zend server has the shared memory issue on iSeries? Will I have shared memory issue if I dont care about the green screen admin commands?

Thanks and regards,

Thank you for reply.

Will you give me more detailed info about it is even impossible to install multiple apache httpd server? According to FastCgiIpcDir document, it is designed to prevent different apache instances to share same fastCGI application.

You can run multiple Apache instances but only one of those can be running PHP/Zend Server.

Thanks a lot for your reply!

But, when you say we can run muliple Apache instances, are you talking about apache instances created through "IBM Web Administration for i5/OS"? I talked about multiple binary instance of Apache httpd instances, which is not name bases virtual host.

Will you confirm that we can install multiple binary instances of Apache httpd (not virtual host) on IBM i (PASE)? I still can not run Zend server FastCGI process with those httpd instances respectively if we can install multiple instances of apache httpd? According to FastCgiIpcDir document, it is designed to allow different apache httpd instances to load different FastCGI module.

thanks and rgards,

Zend Server does not support running multiple binary instances. So if you need multiple "web sites" with php your only choices are vhosts or separate lpars.
